After our all too short visit with Antioch Primitive Baptist Church in Vero Beach, it was time to head home. However, since we are rarely on the East Coast a trip to South Beach was in order. This is a very nice public beach in Vero that we have visited on several occasions, both on our own and with Church family. While we only made a short visit it was a great one for the kids.
Our big kids love half drowning them selves jumping the waves and riding their boogie boards to shore. They do this to the point that I'm worried to death watching them every time. It is a challenge for me to watch the 3 bigs out in the ocean and the 3 littles along the shore. So it's a good thing that I don't carry them to the beach alone. This Saturday was a perfect day for the bigs, the wind was high and the waves were breaking in large swells. They had the time of their life and didn't believe us when it was time to come in that they had been out for an hour and a half.
The littles enjoyed themselves just as much digging in the wet sand and building towers only to watch them crash down. They of course made a friend and had a ball together. I love how at a young age our children seem to make best friends every where we go, even though we'll never see these people again. The Little boys held my hand and hopped a few waves, but the mostly ran from the water. Kate ventured out toward the bigs once only to get slapped in the face with a wave so back again she came.
We would do recommend this South Beach in Vero Beach, though it has changed over the years. Due to currents changing the beach has gotten to be a little hike to the water. It was a little tough for Gary to manage with his cane, and then he sat and rested the entire time the kids and I were in the water. It isn't particularly known for shelling, but it always has good waves. Most importantly, it has the two things that make for a good beach set-up: nice, large bathrooms, and a shower for rinsing the sand off. There are also lifeguards on duty from 9 to 5 which is a very nice plus in my book. If you'd like to make a trip take 17th Street to the end and the address is 1702 Ocean Dr, Vero Beach, Florida. The park is open every day of the week. Entrance to the beach is free.
